Couldn't load pickup availability
If you book in advance then we should be able to re-size your ring for you while you wait. During your appointment we will measure your fingers and agree upon a price before proceeding. Prices for while you wait ring re-sizing start from £85 and are based on the metal required, the number of sizes that your ring needs to go up or down and the width of the ring.
If you are unsure whether your ring can be re-sized while you wait please drop us a message and we will be happy to help.
If you would like us to resize more than one ring when you come, please select the relevant appointment. Most appointments for resizing 1 ring last from between 45-60 minutes.
All resized come with the ring resizing record.
Please note: To rhodium plate or gold plate a ring following sizing is an additional £25.
FAQ
FAQ's
Why do we have to pay for an appointment upfront?
When we first started offering by appointment ring resizing we did not charge. Over a 4 month period we had a 73% no show rate. If you turn up for your appointment within 30 minutes of the start time and we cannot resize your ring for any reason, or you choose not to go ahead with the sizing we will immediately refund you in full.
Is it guaranteed that you will be able to resize my ring while I wait?
No, we cannot 100% guarantee we will be resize every ring before we have seen it, but most of the time we can.
Sometimes there are factors that mean that the ring will take longer to resize, needs more work or that it should not be resized at all.
Based on the over 350 rings we resized in 2024, 95% of them were able to be resized whilst people waited. The most common reasons that rings could not be resized while people waited, was that gemstones became loose and could not be easily reset. Or the rings needed to be gold plated after resizing.
Does having my ring-sized make it weaker?
No, if done properly the join in the ring will be as strong and secure as any other part of the ring. The finishing process will make your ring a little thinner so it shouldn’t be resized again and again, if possible, but we will advise you if we think your ring is too thin to be sized.
The image below is a close up of a ring that was re-sized upwards and then broke due to an impact. (You can see the dents from this impact circled in orange). The red arrows point out the gold solder lines and you can see that it was not at the solder join that the ring broke.
Will you be able to see the join where the ring has been soldered?
In most cases no but it does depend a little bit on the metal and the alloy. Rings made from gold or silver are simple to solder and a skilled jeweller will be able to hide this join by buffing and polishing. The only time you might see a join with gold is if the alloy composition does not match. For instance if a white gold ring is made from a high palladium alloy and the jeweller does not have this alloy available then they might have to use a slightly different alloy. Your jeweller should do their best to match the alloy and make you aware if this is not possible.
Platinum is a little bit different and if a join is not very precise then you might be able to see a small dip. If the ring is suitable the best way to avoid this is to use thin piece of platinum to weld the join together however this isn’t always possible because of the high temperatures involved.
Palladium is a very tricky metal to work with and very difficult to join. Palladium rings will often have a very thin but visible seam where the join is.
How do you resize a ring?
This depends on exactly what type of ring you have but there are generally 2 different ways in which we resize a ring. The first and most common is by cutting the ring open at the back of the shank and either adding or taking away metal. The video below from our youtube channel shows this process from start to finish.
The second is stretching or compressing. This is only suitable for rings that have parallel sides all the way around and no gemstones, think a plain wedding band.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes dogs are welcome in the workshop
How can you resize rings so quickly?
The process of ring sizing doesn’t take very long if you have the correct tools and expertise. Most jewellers don’t offer this service because they do not have a workshop on the premises and send their repairs to a trade jeweller (like us).
