About Edward
Edward started in the jewellery industry in 2004, leaving school at 16 to work in jewellery shops and workshops before going on to study Jewellery Design at Central St Martins, graduating in 2018, before founding Edward Fleming Jewellery in 2019.
Initially working with small brands and independant designers to consult, design and manufacture on their behalf today Edward Fleming Jewellery no longer offers services to the jewellery trade to focus on bespoke projects, collections and our popular make your own wedding ring workshops
Early career.
Edward left school in June 2004 and began in the jewellery industry in August 2004, begining work in Ce' The Jeweller, a design led jewellery shop with an on site workshop in Bishops Stortford. During his time working in Hatton Garden, Edward worked in two separate workshops, learning traditional diamond mounting techniques, the practical art of hand-making jewellery, and gaining a firm grounding in the jewellery industry.
After some time away from jewellery, Edward re-entered the trade in 2014 and, after taking a course in jewellery illustration at Central St Martins, embarked on a three-year jewellery design degree in 2015, again at Central St Martins.
It was during this time that Edward began to experiment with materials and processes not widely used in fine jewellery manufacture, particularly aluminium, which today forms the basis for the Mycology collection.
During the summer of 2017, Edward interned in Philadelphia, US, with leading ethical jewellers, Bario-Neal, gaining valuable insight into a thriving ethical business and the jewellery industry as a whole in America.
After graduating in the following year, Edward went on to work for Heming, London’s second oldest jewellers, as creative manager, before founding Edward Fleming Jewellery in 2019.
Always fascinated by gemstones and their origins, Edward has spent time in Namibia and Tanzania on the hunt for precious stones and, increasingly, with an interest in improving the conditions of miners and transparency within the jewellery industry. Since 2015, Edward has been a registered goldsmith with Fairtrade gold, as well as being a Fairmined gold licensee.
In 2020, Edward launched ethicaljewelleryblog.com, a platform to help inform the public about the world of ethical jewellery, as well as navigate the various claims made by brands and showcase jewellery, makers, and brands using ethically sourced materials.
Jewellery expertise
Trained in the traditional art of diamond mounting, Edward combines this with modern CAD technologies and micro setting techniques to create fine jewellery, using both precious metals and aluminium. He creates in his workshop in East London and alongside talented craftspeople in London's Hatton Garden.
Edward’s background in hand making has been complemented by learning CAD software rhino and hand rendering (painting) jewellery, giving him a well-rounded understanding of creating unique fine jewellery pieces from scratch.
