The art of the ring stack

The art of the ring stack

What is a ring stack?

Wedding ring. Engagement ring. Eternity ring.  This is the traditional bridal ring stack that many of us in the West are familiar with.  Stacking rings on a single finger rather than spreading them across fingers or even hands.

The art of the ring stack

Deciding which rings make up the perfect stack is a process that can take years as you carefully build your collection and commemorate life's big events.

As the engagement ring comes first, this forms the basis for the rest of the stack.  The shape, gemstone and metal don't match this ring but they often do.  Straight sided rings rings are easier to match and often engagement rings are ‘wedfit’, meaning the stone is raised enough or the setting is shaped to allow a wedding ring to sit flush with it.

If the engagement ring has an unusually or asymmetrically shaped stone that is low set there may be no other option than to get a custom-made ring if you want the stack to sit flush with no gaps.

Someone in this situation people may choose to arrange their stack in a different way, maybe with a shaped wedding ring that has one flat side so that at flat sided eternity ring can sit with it.

Does my wedding ring have to go on the bottom?

No.  There are some traditions around having your wedding ring at the bottom of your stack, making it closest to your heart,  but ultimately, they are your rings, it's your stack so you can do what you want.

Sculptural ring stacks

Luxurious, sculptured designs, often in yellow gold, have been a big bridal trend in recent years so many stacks reflect this.  If you have a curve on one edge or both of any of your rings then if you want your stack to sit flush, your other rings will have to match this curve or shape.
