  • How much does it cost to have a ring resized?

To have a ring resized down costs £85. If your ring needs to be plated then this costs £25 on top of this depending on the size of the ring.

The cost of having a ring sized upwards depends on how many sizes the ring needs to go up, what metal it is made out of and how wide the ring is.

  • Can I have a ring resized that was bought somewhere else?

Yes, we will work on rings from anywhere. We have experience working on rings of all types and will carefully inspect your ring before starting work.

  • Can you resize vintage or antique rings?

Yes, older rings sometimes take a little extra care and knowledge to resize however we use our 17 years of experience working on jewellery to navigate this.

You can read more about resizing vintage and antique rings here.

  • My ring doesn’t have a hallmark can it still be resized?

Yes, any rings that do not have a hallmark will be assessed and if needs be will be acid tested to determine which metal they are made out of. It is important to know what kind of metal the ring is made out of as heat is used when resizing a ring and different metals have different melting points. Acid testing is charged at £10 per piece.

  • I don’t live near your workshop, can I send my ring to you to be resized?

Yes, if you’re unable to visit our workshop then you can send in your ring to us to be resized. If we receive your item by noon it will be resized and shipped on the same day if you have selected our express service. Meaning you should receive it back the next working day. Our standard service takes 4-5 working days.

  • What is the best way to get my ring to you?

We recommend using DHL to ship your items to us as in our experience they offer the most reliable service.

Royal Mail special delivery is another service which is slightly more competitive and until recently was very reliable however recent strike actions have impacted their service. If you would like to send your item via Royal Mail we advise checking for planned strike action.

Other carriers are available however we do not recommend using Hermes.

  • I don’t know what size my ring needs to be, how can I find out?

To find out what size your ring needs to be we can send you some ring sizing blanks. When you book your ring in for resizing please tick the box ‘I need to size my finger’ and follow the instructions.

  • My ring has engraving inside, can it be resized?

Yes however depending on exactly where the engraving is, how deep it is and how many sizes it needs to go up or down we may not be able to save the engraving. But we will try, and if we think your engraving is at risk we will let you know before doing any work.

  • My ring only just goes over the knuckle but when it’s on it spins around, what can I do?

Fingers come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes a ring will only just get over the knuckle yet when they are past it there is plenty of space and they will spin around, this often happens with bigger stones. When this happens you can’t make the ring any smaller otherwise you wouldn’t be able to take it on or off however you can add metal to the inside in the form of beads to stop it from spinning.

  • Can you resize more than one ring?

Yes, if you have more than one ring you would like to resize please book the correct amount of appointment type for the number of rings you have.

  • Why do you charge upfront for appointments?

We started charging upfront for appointments because otherwise many people do not show up. If you turn up for your appointment within 30 minutes of the start time and we cannot resize your ring for any reason, or you choose not to go ahead with the sizing we will immediately refund you in full.

  • Does having my ring-sized make it weaker?

No, if done properly the join in the ring will be as strong and secure as any other part of the ring. The finishing process will make your ring a little thinner so it shouldn’t be resized again and again, if possible, but we will advise you if we think your ring is too thin to be sized.

The image below is a close up of a ring that was re-sized upwards and then broke due to an impact. (You can see the dents from this impact circled in orange). The red arrows point out the gold solder lines and you can see that it was not at the solder join that the ring broke.

This gold solder join held firm despite an impact that broke the ring.

  • Will you be able to see the join where the ring has been soldered?

In most cases no but it does depend a little bit on the metal and the alloy. Rings made from gold or silver are simple to solder and a skilled jeweller will be able to hide this join by buffing and polishing. The only time you might see a join with gold is if the alloy composition does not match. For instance if a white gold ring is made from a high palladium alloy and the jeweller does not have this alloy available then they might have to use a slightly different alloy. Your jeweller should do their best to match the alloy and make you aware if this is not possible.

Platinum is a little bit different and if a join is not very precise then you might be able to see a small dip. If the ring is suitable the best way to avoid this is to use thin piece of platinum to weld the join together however this isn’t always possible because of the high temperatures involved.

Palladium is a very tricky metal to work with and very difficult to join. Palladium rings will often have a very thin but visible seam where the join is.

  • How do you resize a ring?

This depends on exactly what type of ring you have but there are generally 2 different ways in which we resize a ring. The first and most common is by cutting the ring open at the back of the shank and either adding or taking away metal. The video below from our youtube channel shows this process from start to finish.

The second is stretching or compressing. This is only suitable for rings that have parallel sides all the way around and no gemstones, think a plain wedding band.

  • What happens if I am late for my appointment?

If you are late for your appointment then we may not be able to size your ring for you while you wait. If you are more than 30 minutes late then we will almost certainly not be able to. You are welcome to leave your ring with us and we will size it as soon as possible at the original cost.

  • What if I miss my appointment?

If you miss an appointment then you are welcome to re-schedule however if you fail to let us know that you cannot attend then we are unable to refund you. If you let us know more than 24 hours before your appointment then we will refund you in full or reschedule your appointment.

  • Can you resize rings with gemstones in?

Most rings with gemstones can be resized however there are a few types that are trickier than others and a few that just can’t be done. If the ring is very chunky and/or has gemstones all the way around then these can be very difficult to resize. If you are unsure you can use our picture guide to help
