I discovered Demantoid garnets when I visited Namibia in 2015 and I have been fascinated by this super sparkly gemstone every since. I have been working on the design of this ring for a while and it’s nice to sit down and begin the process of handmaking.

I’m using 18ct yellow gold for the setting, halo and shank which are all going to be set with round cut demantoid garnets. I have contemplated creating a double halo using diamonds however I decided to stick to just demantoids this time around.

The first part of the process is to make the setting for the centre stone, a cushion-cut demantoid garnet which will be claw set.

The first step is making the setting for the central stone. I’m making a 1mm thick bezel with claws on each corner and a halo, again from 18ct yellow gold.
