1.06ct Asscher cut diamond engagement ring in platinum, handmade and designed in our London workshop.
I recently had the pleasure of creating this engagement ring for some good friends, as I’ve mentioned before on the blog, creating jewellery and especially engagement rings for friends is the part of my job I enjoy the most.
The centre stone is an eye-catching 1.06ct Asscher cut diamond, which is flanked by two baguette-cut diamonds on either side and 7 round brilliant cuts above and below. The centre stone and two baguettes are rubover set, and the rounds are grain set.
Rubover settings are ideal for gemstones with straight edges, like Asschers and baguettes, as they follow the lines of the stones. Working closely with the client, we designed stones to be set as low as possible.
The making of this ring involved working closely with the clients and narrowing down exactly what it was she wanted. In this case, the proposal had already taken place.
We started off with some guidelines in terms of style, though exactly what shape of stone and what stones we were going to use were still to be decided. At one point, both Sapphires and Emeralds were considered as the centre stone and potentially as border stones too.
In the end, after viewing a selection of stones of various cuts, an Asscher-cut diamond was decided upon. Diamonds not only sparkle beautifully, but the practicality of having a gemstone so hard that it doesn't scratch or wear down over time makes them perfect for engagement rings.
This ring was a total one-off. If you would like to discuss a custom engagement ring design, get in touch.
The process of having a ring designed and made can take between 4 and 6 weeks.
